COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) — Some students at the University of Maryland want Chick-fil-A to close its campus location.
The students have started a petition to get the campus Chick-fil-A shut down in response to comments about same-sex marriage by a company executive. The online petition calls on the university to replace the Chick-fil-A in the Stamp Student Union building with a more accepting and maybe even healthier dining option.
Protests against the restaurant began last month when Chick-fil-A President Dan Cathy told a religious publication that the company backed “the biblical definition of a family.” That led to a “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” with supporters flooding franchises nationwide.
